The PDP condemned the Nigerian Senate for rejecting electronic transmission of election results, calling it harmful to democracy and urging urgent reforms
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the Nigerian Senate for rejecting electronic transmission of election results from polling units, calling the move “shameful” and dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy.

The Senate retained Clause 60 of the 2022 Electoral Act, allowing results to be transmitted in a manner prescribed by INEC, but rejected real-time electronic transmission to the IReV portal.
Reacting, PDP National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong said lawmakers must represent the will of Nigerians, warning that the decision undermines electoral credibility.
“This rejection is a clear indication that the National Assembly is not willing or ready to legislate for electoral sanctity and democratic consolidation,” he stated.
The PDP argued that electronic transmission would curb manipulation during the movement of results from polling units to collation centres, ensuring votes truly reflect the will of the people.
Without reforms, the party warned, voter apathy could rise, eroding public confidence in elections.
The opposition urged the National Assembly to reconsider its position and approve amendments allowing electronic transmission, describing the Senate’s decision as “a sad day for electoral democracy.”

Meanwhile, the Senate retained the permanent voter card (PVC) as the sole voter accreditation method and approved direct primaries for political parties.
