Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Gambari stressed that governance in Nigeria is not inherently complex but requires a return to fundamental practices that promote merit and inclusivity.
He expressed concern over the persistent exclusion of women from top political offices, noting that Nigeria has yet to produce a female governor, vice president, or president.
“Governance is not rocket science, but we have to go back to the fundamentals of how people got to where they are,” Gambari said. “If we fail to reform the process of identifying candidates for elective office, I’m afraid we will not achieve the results we require.”
Gambari also highlighted the need to engage younger Nigerians, urging political parties to clearly articulate their visions for the future and ensure that youth and gender are not disadvantaged.
