Tambuwal on Nigerian elections: Electoral outcomes often misrepresented due to loopholes and compromised officials, says Sokoto South Senator
Sokoto South Senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has warned that electoral outcomes in Nigeria are not entirely determined by the electorate, citing loopholes and compromised officials as major factors.

The former Sokoto State Governor said collation processes at various levels often misrepresent the votes cast by citizens.
Tambuwal stated, “It’s not completely decided by the electorates. I can say that and without mincing words. We know quite often times that at coalition level or be it at the polling unit, at the ward level, at local government level, at the state level or even at the national level, things happen that misrepresent what voters actually vote.”
The Senator highlighted that politicians exploit systemic loopholes while some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are compromised, undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
He added, “The system is breaking away through the INEC, the court and the politicians because the politicians try to find corners to cut. So wherever there’s a loophole, politicians take advantage of that loophole.”

Tambuwal’s comments underscore growing concerns about transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s elections, raising questions about reforms to strengthen electoral processes and safeguard voters’ mandates.
