At a public forum in Anambra State, Governor Charles Soludo took a sharp, veiled jab at Peter Obi, condemning his recent vow to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.
Soludo didn’t mention Obi by name but left no doubt as to whom he was targeting.
“Anyone who goes to the public and says, ‘I will only do one term,’ must be sent to a psychiatric home,” Soludo declared, questioning the rationale behind such a promise.
“You are taking everybody to be a fool.”
Obi, who governed Anambra from 2006 to 2014, recently said he would serve just one term to deliver focused leadership.
Supporters saw it as a sign of selflessness; critics, including Soludo, dismissed it as a gimmick.
“When the constitution allows you to stay up to eight years, they come and say ‘I’ll do one term.’ Tell us where it has ever happened,” Soludo said. “Anambra, we have advanced.”
The remarks added fuel to growing speculation about Obi’s 2027 presidential ambitions, though he hasn’t formally declared.
Soludo’s blistering comments suggest that internal political rivalries in Anambra are far from over.

While some view Obi’s pledge as a noble gesture, Soludo paints it as political theatre—an insult to the electorate’s intelligence.
