The lawmakers began the impeachment process last week over alleged constitutional misconduct, particularly regarding financial appropriations.
In response, Fubara and Ordu filed ex parte applications requesting interim injunctions to restrain Speaker Martin Amaewhule, 25 other lawmakers, and the Clerk of the House from further action in the impeachment process.
The claimants also sought to prevent the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, from constituting a seven-member impeachment panel pending the outcome of the substantive suits.
The court had initially granted interim relief and scheduled the hearing for Friday, January 23, 2026.
However, during the resumed session on Thursday, defence counsel, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria S.I. Amen, indicated an intention to appeal and requested the cases be adjourned sine die to allow the appellate court to determine the matters.
Lead counsel for the claimants, Paul Orikoro and Lawrence Oko-jaja (SAN), did not oppose the request, and the court consequently granted the indefinite adjournment.

The development leaves the impeachment process in Rivers State temporarily on hold, pending decisions at the appellate level.
