Obi made the announcement while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing a cheering crowd of supporters, Obi tied the upcoming AMAC election to his broader national political ambitions, urging voters to back the ADC at the grassroots level.
“You see this coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey,” he said.
Obi emphasised his commitment to the presidency, asserting, “I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you.”
The former governor has consistently maintained that, if elected, he will serve only a single four-year term.
Since joining the ADC, Obi’s supporters including members of the Obidient Movement have lobbied for his adoption as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
This internal push has intensified conversations within the opposition party about its 2027 ticket.
In response, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi urged supporters to maintain unity and refrain from divisive rhetoric as the party navigates early election alignments.
