According to the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), the APC also secured 271 of the 274 councillorship positions, while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won only three seats — two in Tafa and one in Rafi Local Government Area.
The election, held on 1 November, saw participation from over ten political parties, including the PDP, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Announcing the results on Monday night, the Commissioner for Operations at NSIEC, Mohammed Liman, said the polls were conducted in line with electoral law and the commission’s guidelines.
“The commission confirms that all returning officers have concluded collation and declaration of results. After careful review, the commission has approved and ratified the outcomes as announced,” Liman stated.
He added that certificates of return would be issued to all elected chairmen and councillors in due course, with relevant stakeholders notified accordingly.
Despite reports of apathy and pockets of violence in some areas, Governor Mohammed Bago described the polls as successful, noting a “large turnout” of voters in his local government.
