Kano deputy governor appointment sees Murtala Sule Garo selected by Governor Abba Yusuf based on experience and confirmed by the State Assembly
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has explained the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as the new deputy governor, stating that the decision was based on experience, competence, and commitment to development.

The governor made the remarks during the 39th Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Kano, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad.
Yusuf said several candidates were considered before Garo was selected, adding that the choice was guided by performance records and the ability to support the administration’s development agenda.
He said the government required a deputy governor who could effectively complement ongoing efforts to drive progress across the state.
The nomination followed the resignation of former deputy governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, after which Garo’s name was forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly.
Lawmakers subsequently screened and confirmed the nomination within a short period.
Governor Yusuf commended the State Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for its swift consideration and approval of the appointment.
He stated that Garo would be sworn in soon and urged residents to support him in discharging his responsibilities.
During the same meeting, the governor congratulated the new Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, describing her as experienced and capable based on her previous service records.

He called on civil servants and stakeholders across the state to cooperate with her in strengthening public administration.
