Kabiru Marafa resigns from APC, citing insecurity, marginalization, and injustice against Zamfara despite its role in APC’s 2023 victory
Kabiru Marafa has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in Zamfara State.

The former Senator and ex-coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign in the state confirmed his exit via a text message to *Channels Television* on Sunday.
This move follows a unanimous decision by his political structure during a two-day meeting held last week, where leaders resolved to dump the APC.
They cited injustice, neglect, and escalating insecurity as core reasons for their departure.
In a communiqué signed by Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara (Chairman) and Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe (Secretary), the group expressed alarm over Zamfara’s worsening security crisis.
They referenced recent data that places Zamfara at the top of Nigeria’s kidnapping charts.
The group also criticized the Federal Government for allegedly politicizing insecurity during the Kaura Namoda bye-election, accusing security agencies of prioritizing APC’s victory over citizens’ safety.
Marafa’s allies further decried the marginalization of Zamfara in federal appointments.
Despite the state’s pivotal role in delivering votes for APC’s 2023 presidential win, it reportedly received only one ministerial slot, unlike other North-West states that secured multiple.
They also lamented the lack of federal relief for communities ravaged by banditry, pointing to a widening gap between Zamfara’s sacrifices and the benefits received.
The current structure of APC has abandoned the people of Zamfara,” the communiqué stated, adding that the group will soon announce its next political move “in line with the aspirations of Zamfara people.”
