The announcement, made on Friday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, confirmed the appointment of 1,200 political assistants — five per ward — who are tasked with serving as “change agents” within their communities.
The initiative is part of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to grassroots development, inclusivity, and local participation in governance, a principle he has upheld since assuming office in 2019.
Akinmade stated that the aides will serve as liaisons between the government and the people, ensuring the effective delivery of democratic dividends and facilitating transparent two-way communication.
“These assistants are expected to articulate the needs of their respective wards, communicate them to the state government, and provide accurate feedback from government to the grassroots,” Akinmade said.
Governor Abiodun reportedly described the move as a strategic push to strengthen democratic governance across all areas of Ogun State, fulfilling his campaign pledge to ensure an all-inclusive government.
The state government called on the new appointees to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of their communities, stressing the importance of their role in shaping effective policies from the bottom up.

This large-scale appointment reflects a broader trend in Nigerian politics, where citizen engagement is increasingly recognised as central to sustainable development and accountable governance.
