Former PDP deputy governorship candidate Yusuf Bello Danbatta has defected to the APC, citing consultations and support for Kano development agenda
The 2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Yusuf Bello Danbatta, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in Kano State.

Danbatta announced his resignation from the PDP and entry into the APC in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists, citing extensive consultations and a desire to contribute more effectively to governance and development.
He said the decision followed careful deliberations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders who advised him on the best platform to pursue his public service goals.
According to him, the APC provides a stronger political structure through which he can advance the interests of the people and support development-driven initiatives at both state and national levels.
Danbatta further explained that his decision was influenced by the leadership style and developmental direction of the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He described the Kano First Agenda as a transformative policy framework that prioritises good governance, human capital development and infrastructure renewal across the state.
The former PDP deputy governorship candidate said the initiative has demonstrated a clear commitment to improving the lives of residents and driving sustainable development in Kano State.
He reaffirmed his dedication to public service and pledged to continue working for unity, progress and stability irrespective of political affiliation.
Danbatta also called on his supporters and political associates to join him in supporting efforts aimed at strengthening governance and promoting development in the state.

His defection adds to the ongoing realignments within Kano’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
