Adebayo Adedamola clinches Osun PDP governorship primary with 919 votes, securing the party’s ticket for the 2026 election.
Adebayo Adedamola emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Osun 2026 election on Tuesday, November 26, 2025, in Osogbo, the state capital. Adedamola secured 919 votes out of 957 cast in the party primary, claiming the nomination in a decisive victory.

Humphrey Abba, chairman of the primary committee, announced the result, noting that 20 votes were void and that one aspirant had withdrawn before the election.
“The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned,” Abba confirmed.
Voting commenced shortly after delegate accreditation at 11:35 a.m., with Sunday Solarin, Secretary of the Committee, explaining that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had resigned from the party but remained on the ballot.
Solarin warned delegates that votes cast for Adeleke would “eventually amount to waste” and urged compliance with the voting instructions.
Representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission and a PDP national committee oversaw the proceedings.
A heavy security presence, including personnel from the Department of State Security, the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, was maintained throughout the event.
Governor Adeleke had formally resigned from the PDP on November 4, 2025, citing internal crises within the party’s national leadership.
In his resignation letter addressed to Sagba Abogunde, PDP Ward 2 Chairman of Ede North Local Government, Adeleke expressed gratitude for the party’s support during his tenure as Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the resignation.
Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi acknowledged that the ongoing party crises had delayed the primary initially scheduled for December 2.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission timetable for the August 8, 2026 governorship election, parties must submit the names of their candidates by December 15.
