PDP Board of Trustees Launches Unity Drive

PDP Board of Trustees forms reconciliation team to restore unity before November 15–16 convention in Ibadan, pledging commitment to internal peace.

PDP Board of Trustees has set up a high-powered reconciliation committee to unite all aggrieved factions ahead of the party’s elective national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The decision followed an emergency meeting of the Board held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Abuja. In a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the advisory body said the committee’s immediate mandate is to reconcile conflicting sides and present a united front before the convention.

The six-member team is chaired by Ambassador Hassan Adamu (North East), with Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) serving as secretary. Other members include Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Senator Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West), and Dr Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West).

The PDP Board of Trustees directed the committee to submit its report by Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further consideration. It reaffirmed support for the Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee, commending it and the PDP Governors’ Forum for their stabilising roles despite internal friction.

“The BoT solidly stands with and commends the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led NWC, the PDP Governors’ Forum and other critical organs for their collective roles in stabilising our party as we progress towards the national convention,” the statement read.

The Board welcomed the ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A.L. Akintola, which affirmed the PDP’s constitutional right to manage its internal affairs and hold its 2025 elective convention as planned. Wabara described the judgment as “a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and political development.”

Amid renewed tensions following Monday’s takeover of the party’s national secretariat by loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the PDP Board of Trustees urged restraint and dialogue.

“As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but remains focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord,” the communiqué stated, describing reconciliation as “a demonstration of maturity and responsibility.”

The reconciliation initiative comes at a critical moment for the PDP, as factional disputes involving Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman and the embattled Umar Damagum threaten to overshadow preparations for the convention.
