Wike FCT Road Projects Create Jobs, Boost Infrastructure

Wike FCT Road Projects are creating jobs and transforming Abuja. Minister urges residents to support Tinubu’s vision by paying taxes for continued development.

Wike FCT Road Projects are generating employment and enhancing urban infrastructure in Abuja, according to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who reiterated the economic value of ongoing construction work across the capital.

Speaking during the flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road extension in the Asokoro District, Wike stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is creating jobs by prioritising road construction and infrastructure upgrades.

He called on residents to support the administration by paying their taxes, which he described as essential for funding these projects.

“The President is providing jobs through the construction of roads in the FCT. But good roads, good drainage systems — they all cost money,” Wike said.

He used a vivid metaphor to underscore the importance of funding: “If soup sweet, na money kill am.

Without the right ingredients, your soup will look like ordinary water. But with proper funding, you’ll have all the medemede (ingredients). Even if you’re not hungry, the aroma will make you want to eat.”

The Wike FCT Road Projects initiative, he explained, is part of a broader directive from President Tinubu to ensure the nation’s capital competes with leading global cities.

The minister revealed that the latest project was initiated following a personal appeal from a vocal critic of the Tinubu administration, who urged the FCT authorities to extend infrastructure development to the Asokoro extension.

“This shows that even the critics are recognising the good work being done,” Wike remarked, highlighting the administration’s growing credibility.

The Mohammed Isa Road extension is one of several projects launched in recent days, as part of a 10-day rollout covering roads and water infrastructure.

Wike noted that each new project contributes to employment, especially for young people engaged by construction firms.

“Every day, one company is carrying out a project. Our teeming youths are engaged. That is job creation in action,” he stated.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yunana Dauda, said the contract was awarded to Global Spectrum Energy Services Limited with a completion timeline of 14 months.

The project includes four kilometres of roads, complete with drainage systems, street lighting, water networks, sewer systems, telecom ducts, and power infrastructure.

Wike concluded by reiterating his commitment to President Tinubu’s vision: “We are his agents. You can’t say the FCT is working and claim the President is not. Through us, his directives are implemented.

The FCT must compete favourably with cities across the world — and that is what we are achieving.”
