Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda expresses confidence that more state governors will defect to APC ahead of the 2027 elections due to President Tinubu’s strong leadership.
Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has expressed strong confidence that more state governors will join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the Bayelsa State chapter’s 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa, Yilwatda highlighted that President Bola Tinubu’s leadership is attracting opposition leaders to the ruling party.
The National Chairman of the APC, represented by Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Emma Eneukwu, emphasized that the party’s doors remain open as governors, senators, and House members are increasingly moving into APC.
“Our doors are still open, more governors are still moving into our party, more personalities are still moving in because of the calibre, integrity, and output of the person we made president,” Yilwatda said.
This surge in defections includes notable leaders like Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwore and Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support President Tinubu’s re-election.
Yilwatda dismissed opposition challenges, likening President Tinubu to a lion unfazed by distractions.
“When you have a lion and other small animals are barking, the lion doesn’t even take notice of them; he goes about his duties properly,” he said.
He also praised South-South governors for their “realism and understanding,” stating their defection is a testament to President Tinubu’s strong leadership.
“They are leaving their parties to come to APC to support Mr. President in 2027 for an overwhelming victory,” Yilwatda added.
The APC chairman urged members in Bayelsa to remain united and focused on securing victory in 2027.
Former Bayelsa Governor Chief Timipre Sylva reaffirmed the party’s unity as preparations ramp up for the elections.
