The congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Friday, August 29.

Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria, was elected by the Rotary International Board of Directors following the resignation of SangKoo Yun due to health reasons. He will officially assume office on July 1, 2026.

With this milestone, Babalola becomes only the second Nigerian and African in Rotary’s 120-year history to hold the prestigious global position.

“Your election is a testament to your years of service through the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Rotary International,” Tinubu stated.

“It reflects your laudable philanthropic initiatives and relentless pursuit of projects that have impacted lives, strengthened communities, and advanced peace, progress, and human dignity.”

Rotary International is a global humanitarian organisation with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries and territories, known for its service projects in health, education, and peacebuilding.

Tiubu congratulates Olayinka Babalola not just as a national honour, but as a source of pride for Nigeria’s growing reputation in global leadership and volunteer service.

“As you prepare to assume office, you can count on our support and encouragement to continue championing humanitarian causes, fostering international partnerships, and promoting the spirit of service to humanity,” the President added.
