Aminu Tambuwal has denied plans to defect from the ADC to APC, describing reports of his alleged move as false and baseless
Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed reports that he is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State, said the reports circulating on social media were false and baseless.
His position was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Prince Daniel, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the senator, on behalf of the AWT Media Office.
The media office said Tambuwal’s longstanding relationships with politicians across party lines should not be interpreted as evidence of an impending political realignment.
It explained that photographs and video clips circulating online did not establish that the former governor was negotiating to join the APC.
According to the statement, interactions such as exchanging greetings or engaging with members of other political parties should not be mistaken for a change in political allegiance.
“Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC,” the statement said.
The media office added that Tambuwal’s focus remained on strengthening the ADC, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also urged Nigerians to focus on pressing economic, security and governance challenges rather than unsubstantiated political speculation.
The statement maintained that Tambuwal remained committed to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians.
It further appealed to media organisations and social media commentators to verify reports concerning the senator with his media office before publication.
“Speculation must never be presented as fact,” the statement added.

The denial comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with politicians and political parties intensifying efforts to build alliances and expand their support bases.
