The appointment was announced in a statement from Obasanjo’s media office shared with PUNCH Online on Monday, October 12, 2026.

According to the statement, Macjob is expected to draw on his journalism and media experience to communicate Obasanjo’s positions, activities and public engagements across traditional and digital platforms.

“His professional profile and published work indicate experience in broadcast journalism, including contributions to BBC reporting,” the statement said.

The appointment places media communication at the centre of Obasanjo’s public engagement, with Macjob expected to support the presentation of her views and activities to the public.

Beyond his journalism background, Macjob is also a filmmaker, a qualification Obasanjo’s media office highlighted as relevant to his new role.

The statement said his experience in the creative sector could contribute to efforts to expand opportunities in Ogun Central, the senatorial district previously represented by Obasanjo.

“In addition to his journalistic experience, Macjob, also a filmmaker, brings his expertise in the creative sector – Nigeria’s second-largest employer after agriculture and one he’d be keen to scale up across Ogun Central,” the statement read.

His appointment reflects the growing importance of media strategy and digital communication in political engagement, as public figures seek to communicate their activities and positions to wider audiences.

However, the statement did not provide further details about Macjob’s specific responsibilities or outline any immediate communication initiatives he would undertake.

Obasanjo represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2011. She also served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health before pursuing an academic career in the United States.

According to the statement announcing Macjob’s appointment, she returned to active politics in 2026 amid renewed political activity.

She is the daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and has previously held both political and public service positions in Ogun State.
