2027: Arewa Forum Urges Tinubu Govt to Avoid Unrealistic Promises

Arewa Forum urges the Tinubu government to avoid unrealistic promises, acknowledge challenges and focus on achievable results ahead of 2027

The Arewa Consultative Forum has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to avoid making promises it cannot fulfil, calling for greater modesty and honesty in communicating its achievements to Nigerians.

The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Baba Mohammed Tukur, made the call on Thursday while speaking on Arise Television.

Tukur said the Federal Government should acknowledge that some of its policies and economic measures had not produced the desired outcomes instead of making unrealistic commitments.

According to him, Nigerians would prefer the administration to clearly state what it can realistically accomplish within a given period rather than promise sweeping changes that may be difficult to deliver.

“What do I want to see from this administration, an open admission that things are not going the way they are intended or rather that they did not do the work very well but now there is a clear result,” Tukur said.

He urged the government to be modest in its promises and focus on practical measures that can produce measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.

“But please don’t promise heaven and earth because we know that it can’t be delivered,” he said.

Tukur added that perfection was unattainable and that the government should instead communicate achievable targets to Nigerians.

“The thing about perfection is that it’s never attainable,” he said.

He also criticised the state of the economy, describing it as a “voodoo economy” while illustrating the difficulties faced by farmers.

According to Tukur, a farmer could spend about N50,000 on preparing and cultivating a farm but eventually sell the produce for only N40,000.

“So what kind of economy is that, maybe voodoo economic you may say,” he said.

The ACF spokesman said the administration should focus on explaining what it could accomplish within a few months rather than attempting to convince Nigerians that every problem could be solved immediately.

“So be modest and tell us what you can do within a few months and we don’t expect you to reinvent the wheel but how the spokes fit in the wheel,” he said.

His comments come as political parties and groups increasingly turn their attention towards the 2027 general elections, with the performance of the Federal Government expected to remain a major issue in political debates.
