Former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Wafari Theman, has joined the 2027 governorship race in Adamawa State on the platform of the Young Progressives Party.
Theman unveiled his 17-point agenda on Monday in Yola, the state capital, saying his decision to contest was driven by the need to introduce modern technology and skills-driven governance capable of accelerating development across the state.
The former lawmaker placed security prominently in his proposed programme, arguing that modern technology could significantly improve the state’s ability to detect and respond to security threats.
He said that if elected governor, his administration would establish a Security Trust Fund within its first 100 days in office to support efforts to address insecurity in the state.
Theman said his proposed security strategy would move beyond conventional enforcement and adopt a community-based approach involving traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious groups, youths and women.
He also proposed prioritising rural communities, where he said the majority of residents live, while working with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to strengthen local responses to insecurity.
The YPP aspirant described his 17-point manifesto as practical and evidence-based, rather than a collection of theoretical promises.
On education, Theman said his proposed administration would shift greater attention towards skills acquisition while ensuring that children are not denied access to basic education because of their parents’ financial circumstances.
“Under my government, no child will be out of school or denied the opportunity to have basic education on account of poverty or the financial standing of his or her parents,” he said.
He also identified healthcare as another priority, promising to address gaps in the state’s health sector, particularly in medical equipment, drug supplies and other essential needs.
Theman further said his agenda would focus on tackling poverty and unemployment among young people. He proposed the establishment of digital technology hubs across Adamawa’s three senatorial districts as part of efforts to equip youths with skills and create opportunities.
The former lawmaker’s entry adds another name to the field of politicians seeking to govern Adamawa from 2027.
His campaign will now be expected to persuade voters that his proposed technology-led approach, security plan and wider 17-point agenda can translate into measurable improvements in governance and living conditions across the state.
