Christopher Musa joins Tinubu’s 2027 campaign team, saying his political role will not affect his defence duties or Nigeria’s security operations
Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), has accepted appointment as Secretary I of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, joining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign while assuring Nigerians that his new political responsibility will not interfere with his duties in Abuja.

Musa confirmed the appointment in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, as the ruling party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The Defence Minister said he would approach the assignment with diligence and administrative discipline while remaining focused on his constitutional responsibilities, particularly the protection of lives and property and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“National security remains our highest imperative,” Musa said.
The appointment places a serving cabinet minister with a prominent security portfolio within the political structure supporting Tinubu’s bid for another term.
Musa, however, sought to draw a clear line between his political assignment and the responsibilities of the Defence Ministry. He said ongoing military operations, strategic reforms and cooperation among security agencies would continue without interruption.
The assurance comes as Nigeria continues to contend with security challenges across several regions, making the Defence Ministry one of the most closely watched arms of the federal government.
Musa also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, describing the appointment as another call to service.
He urged APC members and supporters of the administration to remain united ahead of the election, expressing confidence that the party would retain power in 2027 while continuing to pursue its governance and security agenda.
The minister’s involvement adds another senior government figure to the APC’s emerging campaign structure at a time when political mobilisation is gradually gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
For Musa, however, the immediate emphasis remains on maintaining the country’s security architecture while carrying out the additional political responsibility entrusted to him.
The development also places renewed attention on the intersection between governance, national security and electoral politics, particularly as senior members of the administration become increasingly involved in preparations for the next general election.
