Anyanwu Declares 2027 Imo Governorship Bid, Says It’s His Turn to Lead

Samuel Anyanwu, PDP National Secretary, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Imo State governorship election, asserting it is now his turn to lead after previous PDP leaders

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, has declared his ambition to become the next governor of Imo State in the 2027 election, stating it is now his turn to lead the state.

Anyanwu made the declaration in Owerri, the Imo State capital, at the launch of the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy, his political moniker.

He noted that three other prominent members of the “old PDP in Imo” — Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha, and Hope Uzodimma — had all governed the state, and it was now time for him to take his turn.

Speaking at the event, Anyanwu said: “We were four strong PDP members, myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha. As God may have it, all three of them have ruled over Imo state, and I have remained myself. I have come to take my turn and I believe the other contestants will make space for me.”

He acknowledged the competitive nature of politics but expressed strong confidence. “It’s true that power isn’t given, it’s taken. I’ll stay focused on the ball,” he added.

Anyanwu praised the current state of the PDP, describing it as stronger and more united with growing membership. “Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our number is also growing by thousands. I’m saying this clearly and honestly, PDP is the only party our people really trust, and we won’t let the people of Imo down.”

He urged members of the new group to intensify grassroots mobilisation, particularly in rural areas, and warned against electoral malpractices.

The PDP, he said, would deploy its own agents to every polling unit to safeguard votes.

Anyanwu also referenced supporting structures such as the Divine Mandate and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy, calling for unity to deliver victory for the party and its candidate.
