The certificates were presented on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu.
The ceremony was confirmed in a statement posted on INEC’s official X account on Tuesday.
Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the winners and urged them to prioritise effective representation of their constituents, stressing the importance of accountability in public office.
“The most important responsibility is to represent the people well,” she said.
She also disclosed that Certificates of Return would be issued to additional winners from elections held in Kebbi State for the Zuru State Constituency and in Ekiti State following the governorship poll.
The by-elections, held across Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo and Kano states, produced mixed outcomes for Nigeria’s major political parties, with the All Progressives Congress recording significant gains in several constituencies.
According to results earlier announced by INEC, the APC secured victories in Ondo, Nasarawa, Kano and Kebbi states, strengthening its legislative presence across multiple regions.
The Peoples Democratic Party, however, retained the Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat, maintaining its foothold in the state following a closely watched contest.
In Enugu State, APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa emerged winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election, while Rabiu Garba Aiki of the APC won the Zuru State Constituency seat in Kebbi State House of Assembly.
INEC also declared Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State.
In Ondo State, Dayo Faduyile of the APC won the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election, while in Nasarawa State, APC candidate Danladi Envulu-anza was declared winner of the Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election after securing 45,362 votes.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC also secured re-election in the Ekiti State governorship poll, becoming the first governor to achieve back-to-back victories in the state since 1999.
The elections were, however, not without controversy, as reports of irregularities, violence and voter intimidation emerged in some constituencies, raising fresh concerns about Nigeria’s electoral process.
Despite these challenges, INEC maintained that the electoral outcomes reflected the will of the electorate and reaffirmed its commitment to improving future electoral integrity.
