Atiku aide dismisses Obi exit, says he’s ‘having fun’ in NDC

Atiku aide Phrank Shaibu says Peter Obi’s exit from ADC is not a loss, claiming he is “having fun” in the NDC political movement

Special Assistant on Public Communication to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has dismissed concerns over the exit of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi from the party, saying his departure was not a loss.

Shaibu made the remarks during a television interview on Trust TV on Sunday, June 14, 2026, where he commented on Obi’s recent political realignment ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

He said Peter Obi, alongside former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, had moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after leaving the ADC over internal disputes and ongoing legal issues within the party.

According to him, Obi’s presence in the new political platform does not weaken the ADC’s structure or influence.

“I don’t see Peter Obi’s exit as a loss to the ADC. Peter has found a haven in the NDC or wherever he is. He’s simply having fun there,” Shaibu said.

He further criticised the structure of the NDC, claiming that the party operates in a centralised manner under a single influential figure.

“In that place, they have what we call the office of the Supreme Leader,” he added.

Shaibu argued that the ADC continues to maintain its internal organisation and leadership structure despite recent political movements involving high-profile figures.
