The lawmaker reportedly left the All Progressives Congress (APC) after failing to secure the party’s ticket to return to the State Assembly ahead of the next election cycle.
Sources indicate that Mai Rigar Fata, who represents Gwale Local Government Area, defected to the NDC shortly after losing out in the APC primaries process.
His move was formally acknowledged on Thursday when he was received into the party by prominent NDC chieftain Rabiu Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence.
The defection is being viewed as a notable shift in Kano politics, coming at a time when parties are intensifying internal restructuring ahead of future elections.
Also reported to have joined the NDC is former Gwale Local Government Vice Chairman, Hon. Kabiru Sani Auwal Obi, further strengthening the party’s presence in the area.
