Obidient Movement Announces Reorganisation Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Obidient Movement announces reorganisation and leadership changes as it distances itself from Labour Party ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections

The Obidient Movement has announced a major internal restructuring as it prepares for the 2027 general elections, signalling a new phase in its political direction and organisational structure.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the newly appointed International Coordinator of the rebranded group, Dr Barry Avotu Johnson, said the movement had undergone leadership changes aimed at restoring its founding vision and strengthening internal coordination.

Johnson stated that the restructuring was necessary to realign the group with its original objectives, which he said had become diluted following the 2023 general elections.

According to him, the movement is now focused on rebuilding its structure to better reflect its core principles of accountability, youth engagement and political participation.

“The original vision and founding ideals of the Obidient Movement were no longer being adequately represented by the leadership after 2023. We are committed to ensuring that the movement stays true to its roots,” he said.

He added that the movement would now operate independently and had formally stepped away from its previous political alignment, while restructuring its leadership framework for future engagement.

The group also announced that it has not yet adopted a presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, stating that consultations and internal restructuring are still ongoing.

“We have not adopted a presidential candidate for 2027 yet. Our focus is on building a sustainable structure for the future,” Johnson added.
