APC Chairman Yilwatda Supports Tinubu’s Northern Economic Plan, Cautions Against Political Interference

APC Northern Nigeria economic agenda backed by Yilwatda, who warns political interference could derail Tinubu’s development plans for the region.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has reaffirmed support for the Federal Government’s development blueprint for Northern Nigeria, warning that political interference could slow down ongoing economic reforms.

Their aim was highlighted in a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, where Yilwatda stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is implementing a long-term plan to reposition the region as a major economic hub in West and Central Africa.

Yilwatda said the scale of federal investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and energy reflects a coordinated strategy aimed at unlocking the region’s vast economic potential.

He noted that road expansions and rail modernisation projects are expected to enhance connectivity, reduce transport costs, and boost trade across states.

He further explained that improvements in electricity supply and agro-industrial initiatives would stimulate industrial growth, while expanded irrigation and mechanised farming programmes are designed to strengthen food production and export capacity.

According to him, these initiatives are also aligned with Nigeria’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area, positioning Northern Nigeria for broader continental market access.

On education, Yilwatda pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a critical intervention aimed at widening access to tertiary education for young people, particularly in underserved communities.

He also emphasised ongoing agricultural reforms supported by improving security conditions, saying the government is focused on boosting large-scale farming, livestock production, and agribusiness financing.
