Senator Abubakar Yusuf, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has warned President Bola Tinubu against relying heavily on the support of APC governors ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid growing political discussions within the ruling party.

The Tinubu 2027 election warning was issued, where the senator raised concerns about internal party cohesion and the strength of political alliances forming ahead of the next election cycle.
Yusuf argued that several governors who recently joined the APC from other political parties may not command strong grassroots support, cautioning that such alliances could weaken the party’s true electoral strength.
He further warned that the ruling party could face internal implosions if its primary elections are not conducted in a free and fair manner, stressing that fairness within the party structure is crucial to maintaining unity.
According to him, the APC’s projected advantage in 2027 may not necessarily reflect strong performance by the administration, but rather the current weakness and fragmentation of the opposition.
“There is no challenge from the opposition,” Yusuf said, adding that while individual opposition figures may be credible, they lack cohesion as a unified political force.
He noted that despite the APC’s perceived advantage, internal disputes remain a greater threat than external competition, particularly if aspirants feel excluded from a fair primary process.
The senator cautioned that denying members a level playing field could trigger defections and weaken the party’s structure ahead of the elections.
He urged President Tinubu to maintain firm leadership and avoid overdependence on governors, stressing that popularity at the grassroots level remains a key determinant in electoral success.
