Wike faction denies backing Tinubu for 2027 elections

PDP denies backing Tinubu 2027 as Wike faction insists it will field its own presidential candidate

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Nyesom Wike on Monday, March 23, 2026, in Abuja denied claims that it is supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general elections.

The position was stated by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

Jungudo Mohammed said the party remains committed to presenting its own presidential candidate, dismissing reports suggesting alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress as unfounded.

He appealed to Nigerians to allow the party time to conduct its primaries, assuring that internal processes would determine its flagbearer for the election.

According to him, rumours linking the faction to support for President Tinubu are part of efforts to discredit both the party and Nyesom Wike.

He maintained that such claims would fade with time, insisting that the PDP denies backing Tinubu 2027 and remains focused on rebuilding its political strength ahead of the polls.
