Fani-Kayode Slams Dele Momodu Over Tinubu Comparison

Fani-Kayode slams Dele Momodu over Tinubu-Abacha comparison, urging ADC to focus on building opposition for 2027 elections

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has criticised media personality and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu for comparing President Bola Tinubu to former military ruler Sani Abacha during a recent interview.

Momodu, in the Sunday discussion, labelled Tinubu’s leadership style as dictatorial, comments that have since generated reactions across political circles.

In response, Fani-Kayode described the comparison as both unfair and disrespectful to the president and other government officials.

“I love Dele and I have immense respect for him, but he sounded drained, tired, and broken, and spoke little sense in that interview,” Fani-Kayode said on X.

“He should consider taking a break from politics and commentary to regain perspective and refresh his thinking.”

Fani-Kayode argued that Momodu’s remarks undermined not only the president but also the vice president, ministers, lawmakers, and newly appointed ambassadors, while questioning the intelligence of Nigerians.

He also turned his criticism to the ADC, urging the party to prioritise building a viable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections instead of targeting the ruling government.

Describing the ADC as structurally weak, Fani-Kayode likened it to “a poorly patched inflatable plastic life boat” incapable of navigating the challenges of Nigerian politics.

He stressed that the party lacks discipline, focus, and organisational capacity, and warned that it would struggle to be taken seriously without significant reforms.

“The ADC cannot even be described as a sinking ship but rather as a badly patched up inflatable plastic life boat… It cannot possibly survive the rough seas and harsh winds of Nigerian politics because it lacks gravitas, focus, character, intelligence, discipline and strength,” he said.
