El-Rufai detention triggers coordinated protests in Kaduna as youth groups demand his release following bail denial by ICPC
Youth groups in Kaduna State on Wednesday staged coordinated protests across the state over the El-Rufai detention, demanding the immediate release of former governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai following the denial of bail after his arrest by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Demonstrators gathered in parts of Kaduna metropolis and Southern Kaduna, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards bearing inscriptions such as “Free El-Rufai Now” and “Justice for Our Leader.” Security personnel monitored the rallies as protesters moved through key locations, including the Western Bypass, briefly slowing traffic.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi, who identified himself as a leader of the Arewa Youth Movement, addressed supporters during the protest.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi described the continued detention as unjust and politically motivated.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi said the rally aimed to register dissatisfaction over what he called prolonged incarceration.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi warned that the group would escalate lawful actions if authorities failed to respond.
Ibrahim Modibbo Sanusi disclosed plans for a proposed one-million-man march in Abuja should the situation remain unchanged.
The protest followed the reported refusal of bail after the arrest by the anti-graft agency.
The development has intensified political tension in the state, with supporters insisting that due process must prevail.
In Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, youths held a parallel peaceful demonstration in solidarity with the former governor.
Women and community leaders also joined the rallies, adding a powerful civic dimension to the protests.
Security agencies maintained a visible presence but did not report any violence.
