Osun PDP Chairman Bisi Rejects Removal Amid Crisis

Osun PDP Bisi crisis deepens as chairman rejects claims of removal, reaffirms support for Governor Adeleke ahead of August governorship poll

Sunday Bisi has rejected claims that he has been removed as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, describing the purported action by a stakeholders’ forum as unconstitutional and without effect.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Bisi insisted that he remains the duly elected chairman and that only properly constituted party organs can make decisions affecting elected officials.

He emphasised that the tenure of his executive remains valid and aligned with the party constitution.

“The forum lacks legal powers or mandate to remove or tamper with the elected structures of the party. I remain the chairman,” Bisi said.

He added that most elected officials in the state, aside from the governor and deputy governor, remain members of the PDP.

Bisi also confirmed that the PDP in Osun had not fielded a candidate for the August governorship election, stating that the party has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election.

He criticised statements by former governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, calling them inconsistent with the mainstream structure of the party in Osun and part of a continuing effort to undermine Governor Adeleke.

Oyinlola, speaking at a separate stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, maintained that the PDP remains viable in the state and dismissed claims that the party structure had been collapsed into the Accord Party.

He reaffirmed that the PDP would remain active in Osun and welcomed Governor Adeleke back should he choose to return.
