Court Nullifies PDP 2025 National Convention, Bars Turaki Faction

PDP National Convention annulled as Federal High Court in Ibadan bars Kabiru Turaki faction from acting as party officers

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Oyo State, dealing a major setback to the faction that emerged from the gathering.

In its ruling delivered on Friday, the court also restrained Kabiru Turaki and others elected at the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The PDP had gone ahead with its two-day elective national convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, despite deepening internal disputes over leadership and procedure.

Branded #Ibadan2025, the convention attracted thousands of delegates, party leaders, and supporters from across the country.

The judgment is the latest development in the protracted leadership crisis within the opposition party, which has resulted in parallel factions and multiple court cases challenging the legitimacy of its national leadership structures.

Reacting to the ruling, the PDP said it would seek redress at the appellate courts.

In a statement posted on the party’s official X handle on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, urged members to remain calm and steadfast.

According to the statement, the party is confident that the appellate courts will overturn the judgment and affirm the legality of the convention.

“Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki–led Peoples Democratic Party, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains legally intact and unshaken as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts,” the statement read.

“We therefore urge our members to remain resolute and committed, as there is absolutely no cause for alarm. The rebirth movement remains firmly on course,” it added.

As the case proceeds to the appellate level, the ruling is expected to have significant implications for the PDP’s internal cohesion and preparations ahead of future political activities and elections.
