ADC, APC Spokespersons Clash Over Party Ideologies

ADC and APC spokespersons clash publicly over party ideologies, sparking debate on governance, welfare, and political principles in Nigeria

A public dispute erupted on X on Wednesday between Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, over the ideological direction of their respective parties.

Bwala mocked Abdullahi for allegedly failing to clearly define the ADC’s ideology, suggesting this either reflected personal incompetence or a lack of vision within the party.

He questioned the credibility of Abdullahi’s recent publication, asserting that a party spokesperson should be able to articulate the organisation’s principles clearly.

“The other time, they asked Bolaji, the ADC spokesperson, about the ideology of the ADC. He said they were still thinking about it. Today, they asked him again, and he became confused and started picking a fight. Lol. Association for a wild goose chase,” Bwala wrote.

“If the spokesperson doesn’t know the ideology of the party, then it points to one of two things: either the incompetence of the spokesperson or the visionlessness of the party.”

In response, Abdullahi dismissed Bwala’s remarks and challenged his authority, insisting that the ADC has a clearly defined ideology centred on the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians.

He also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to uphold its claimed social welfare orientation, arguing that its policies have instead entrenched poverty, encouraged looting, and worsened insecurity across the country.

“The ideology of the ADC is very clear: putting the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians at the centre of governance,” Abdullahi wrote.

“Your party claims to have a ‘social welfare’ ideology, but in reality, it appears to be promoting an ideology of mass poverty, mindless looting, and banditry.

And you speak about my book? This is not about motivational speaking.

My advice to you, Brother Daniel, is to read before you comment. Reading will not kill you.”
