Akwa Ibom Rulers Endorse Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno for Re-election

Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State 25 January 2026 Traditional rulers across Akwa Ibom State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno for a second term in office, citing their notable developmental achievements and governance records.

The announcement was made at a special rally held on Saturday at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

The endorsement drew royal fathers from across the district, including Paramount Rulers, Clan Heads, Village and Family Heads, and their spouses, in what was described as a historic display of unity.

A statement issued on Sunday in Uyo by Mr Anietie Ekong, Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the President of the Senate, confirmed the collective decision.

Speaking at the event, Itai Afe Annang, Paramount Traditional Ruler and Leader of Afe Annang, alongside Obong Blaise Awakama, who chaired the ceremony, highlighted the developmental milestones achieved by the trio at both federal and state levels.

The leaders emphasised that the endorsement was grounded in tangible achievements rather than political alignment.

“The Traditional Rulers have observed the remarkable work of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose prior governance in Lagos State demonstrated visionary leadership,” said Awakama.

He noted the President’s economic reforms had increased funding for states and local governments, enabling expanded development initiatives.

Senator Akpabio’s contributions were also recognised, with particular reference to his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senate Minority Leader, and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

“He completed the NDDC headquarters and delivered numerous projects across the region, in addition to advancing legislation such as the Students Loan Act,” said Awakama.

Governor Umo Eno received praise for extending development beyond urban centres into rural communities.

He was described as a “God-sent Golden Boy of Akwa Ibom State” whose leadership fostered peace and inclusive growth.

Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, Paramount Ruler Akuku Udofia, affirmed that the unanimous endorsement reflected the collective will of the council to promote unity and constructive engagement.

Responding to the memorandum of endorsement, Governor Eno called the gesture unprecedented and thanked the traditional institution for its continued support.

Senator Akpabio, speaking on behalf of himself and President Tinubu, assured the monarchs that efforts to improve Nigerians’ lives remained a priority.
