Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, on Monday, 22 December 2025, in Abuja, announced that Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors will assume duty in their respective countries in 2026, following completion of the National Assembly’s clearance and confirmation process.

Speaking at the government’s end-of-year press conference, Idris said the deployment is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing Nigeria’s global visibility and strategic engagement.
“In 2026, our newly appointed ambassadors will take up their posts in their countries of assignment. Their clearance and confirmation have just been completed by the National Assembly,” he said.
The minister noted that the appointments were made in response to public calls for the posting of ambassadors, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had acted to address these concerns.
“Before this, there were calls and complaints for ambassadors to be deployed. President Tinubu has fulfilled that demand,” Idris said, adding that while some deployment processes are complete, the remaining steps would continue next year.
Last week, the Senate confirmed 64 ambassadorial nominees, including former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode and former presidential aide Reno Omokri, following review and adoption of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs report, which deemed all nominees suitable for appointment.
Of the confirmed nominees, 34 are career ambassadors and high commissioners, while 30 are non-career appointees, reflecting a mix of experienced diplomats and political appointees.
