Ex-IGP Adamu Joins APC Nasarawa Governorship Race

Former IGP Mohammed Adamu enters Nasarawa governorship race after picking APC forms ahead of the 2027 elections

Adamu’s move signals his intention to contest the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning him as a key contender within the ruling party’s emerging power structure in the state.

The development sets the stage for a high-stakes contest within the APC, where he is expected to face Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who is widely backed by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Barrister Hussein Musa, Director-General of Adamu’s campaign, described the former police chief’s entry into the race as a significant step towards what he called inclusive leadership in Nasarawa State.

Musa expressed confidence in Adamu’s prospects, stating that the campaign team is fully prepared to secure victory at both the party primaries and the general election.

The Nasarawa APC governorship race has further intensified internal dynamics within the APC, which has recently experienced growing divisions following the governor’s endorsement of Wadada.

In a related development, five governorship aspirants from Nasarawa West Senatorial District reportedly stepped down from the race and declared support for Wadada, strengthening his position within that political bloc.

Senator Wadada currently represents Nasarawa West in the Senate. He previously served in the House of Representatives for Karu, Keffi, and Kokona Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
