KOSIEC Steps Up Voter Education Ahead of Kogi LG Polls

KOSIEC voter education campaign intensifies in Kogi ahead of October 2026 LG elections, engaging rulers, politicians, and grassroots communities

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has intensified its voter education campaign across the state’s three senatorial districts ahead of the October 17, 2026, Local Government Elections.

Led by Chairman Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, the sensitisation tour included advocacy visits to traditional institutions and meetings with political stakeholders to explain voting procedures, promote compliance with the Kogi State Independent Electoral Law, 2025, and secure royal blessings for a peaceful poll.

At the palace of the Attah of Igala, His Royal Majesty Matthew Alhaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa II, the KOSIEC delegation was welcomed by the Council of Chiefs. Chief Emmanuel Onucheyo, representing the monarch, offered prayers and blessings for a credible election.

Hon. Labaran Oyigebe, Commission member for Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro, thanked the palace for the reception and emphasised the need for unity.

In Ebiraland, the Ohinoyi, His Royal Majesty Dr. Ahmed Tijani Anaje, pledged support for KOSIEC, while in Kabba, the Obaro of Kabba, represented by Chief Olusegun Are, commended the Commission’s operational planning. Local politicians, including Hon. Alfred Bello and APC Chairman Hon. Enesi Ahmed Nuhu, lauded the voter education initiative and pledged compliance with the new electoral law.

Throughout the campaign, Hon. Eri distributed copies of the 2025 Electoral Law, voter education pamphlets, and the 2026 election timetable to reinforce awareness and ensure grassroots participation.
