Kenny Okolugbo praises the 10th Senate’s unprecedented achievements in lawmaking, economic reform, and governance under Akpabio’s leadership
Kenny Okolugbo Senate achievements have been marked by remarkable progress in lawmaking, economic reforms, and governance within just two years of the 10th Senate’s tenure, according to the media consultant to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Okolugbo revealed that the Senate had passed over 90 bills, with 52 already signed into law by President Bola Tinubu — an impressive record attributed to Akpabio’s “uncommon leadership style.”
Okolugbo noted that these legislative efforts have significantly contributed to stabilising Nigeria’s economy, improving fiscal policies, and encouraging inclusive development nationwide.
He highlighted a recent 4.23 per cent drop in inflation, now standing at 20.12 per cent, as a positive economic indicator.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, Okolugbo expressed optimism: “We are not yet there, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
Key legislations include the Student Loan Act, which provides indigent students with repayable education loans post-employment, and the Tax Reform Bill that expands the tax base while easing the burden on low-income earners.
The Minimum Wage Act, doubling workers’ pay and exempting minimum wage earners from personal income tax, was also celebrated.
Additionally, the Senate established five regional development commissions to tackle regional imbalances and bring governance closer to citizens.
Okolugbo further disclosed proactive measures by the Senate to ensure continuity of capital projects in the 2024 and 2025 budgets, despite delays in receiving fiscal strategy papers from the Executive.
He also revealed plans for a National Security Summit aimed at addressing Nigeria’s pressing insecurity issues and welcomed strengthened regulations in the Electricity Act to curb unjust tariff increases.
“Our citizens cannot continue paying higher bills for electricity they rarely receive,” he stressed.
Okolugbo emphasised that the 10th Senate’s success stems not from confrontation with the Executive but from constructive collaboration yielding tangible benefits for Nigerians.
He praised Senate President Akpabio’s results-driven approach, recalling his reputation as the “Uncommon Governor” during his tenure in Akwa Ibom, whose developmental achievements still resonate today.

Okolugbo also commended Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin for his steady leadership in Akpabio’s absence, affirming that the Senate’s work continues seamlessly.
