The announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
Justice Akintayo stated that preparations for the polls, scheduled for December 12, 2026, have been concluded, with emphasis on transparency and a violence-free process.
He described public confidence in the elections as a top priority.
The meeting brought together leaders of political parties, security agencies including the police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, as well as community and religious leaders.
“EKSIEC is prepared for the conduct of credible and fair local government elections billed for December 12. The commission is determined to deliver elections that will be transparent, accountable and free from violence,” Akintayo said.
He urged political parties to present candidates and ensure primaries are conducted in compliance with the law.
The chairman also called on residents to register and collect voter cards, while emphasising the importance of local government elections in driving grassroots development.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, assured the commission and residents of adequate security before, during and after the elections.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Brig.-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), encouraged active public participation, noting that Ekiti is among the safest states in Nigeria.
“Local government elections are critical to effective grassroots governance, and all stakeholders must commit to peaceful, participatory processes,” Eribo said.
