APC Ekiti Protest erupts in Abuja as members condemn Kayode Ojo’s disqualification from the governorship primary, demanding fair participation.
APC Ekiti Protest broke out at the All Progressives Congress National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday, as aggrieved party members from Ekiti State demanded the reinstatement of Kayode Ojo in the forthcoming governorship primary.

The demonstration followed the APC National Working Committee’s decision, made weeks earlier, to disqualify Ojo from contesting in the October 27 primary, effectively positioning the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, as the party’s consensus candidate.
Chanting slogans such as “Ekiti says No to Governor Biodun Oyebanji”, “No to Consensus”, and “Yes to Kayode Ojo”, the protesters—predominantly women—accused the party leadership of suppressing internal democracy.
Many carried placards reading “We Don’t Want Consensus”, “We Say No to Kayode Ojo’s Disqualification”, and “APC Must Let Ekiti People Choose Their Candidate.”
The protestors insisted that the APC Ekiti Protest was not just about a single candidate but about ensuring fairness and transparency within the ruling party. One demonstrator, who identified herself as a grassroots organiser, said the exclusion of Ojo had “robbed the people of their democratic right to choose.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the Ekiti State governorship election for 20 July 2026, and the ongoing internal disputes could further heighten political tension in the state ahead of the poll.

As the APC National Secretariat remained under tight security, party officials were yet to issue an official response to the protest.
The situation underscores growing divisions within the Ekiti APC, with many calling for the National Working Committee to reconsider its stance and restore confidence among its members.
