APC By-Election Victory Sparks ADC Backlash Claims

APC by-election victory draws ADC allegations of rigging. APC calls claims false and touts Tinubu’s leadership and party popularity

The APC by-election victory has ignited political tensions as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) accused Nigeria’s electoral body of rigging the just-concluded polls — a claim swiftly dismissed by the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking through its Director General, Media Network, Otuekong John, on Monday in Uyo, the APC media group described ADC’s accusation as a “desperate distraction from failure,” insisting that the by-election outcomes reflect APC’s growing popularity and the people’s confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

The by-election, held across multiple constituencies, saw the APC clinch 12 seats, with APGA taking 2, while PDP and NNPP secured 2 each.

“The APC’s success is attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to equitable development and good governance,” said John.

He added that Nigerians have consistently placed their trust in the APC due to its “strong track record” and vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

He described ADC’s newly formed coalition as “paper tigers” lacking the depth or structure to challenge APC’s dominance at any level.

The group labelled ADC’s accusations of vote manipulation by INEC as “baseless and misleading,” emphasizing that free and fair electoral processes delivered results that mirror the nation’s political reality.

“This is not about manipulation; it’s about momentum. Nigerians are aligning with APC’s vision. The ADC coalition needs to stop crying wolf and focus on policies, not propaganda.”

The statement also warned the ADC and other opposition parties that the by-election is a “precursor to the 2027 presidential election,” which it believes will once again affirm APC’s mandate.

John urged opposition parties to “reassess their empty strategies” and engage in meaningful governance ideas, instead of pushing “unfounded claims” that insult the intelligence of voters.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu’s administration for continued “transformative governance”.

“We’re building a brighter, more inclusive Nigeria. That’s what the APC stands for,” he said.
