The governor, on Thursday, approved N45 million for the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) to strengthen its fight against HIV/AIDS.
Speaking through his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, at the inauguration of OYSACA Ambassadors in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized that the funding reflects his administration’s commitment to advancing public health and supporting vulnerable populations.
“This N45 million is dedicated to curbing this deadly disease across the state,” the governor said, “and is complemented by the recent approval for the purchase of HIV test kits to strengthen the agency’s capacity.”
According to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, this investment aligns with the goals of Omituntun 2.0, which prioritizes sustainable development and quality healthcare.
During the event at the OYSACA Conference Room in Agodi, Ibadan, six new ambassadors were officially inaugurated. They include:
- Saka Balogun
- Ayo Ladigbolu
- Mutiat Ladoja
- Rasaq Adeleke
- Wale Saminu
- Shina Peller
Makinde described them as “champions of change” and encouraged them to raise awareness, fight stigma, and promote inclusive care for people living with HIV/AIDS.
“As ambassadors, you are voices for the silent and beacons of hope for those in darkness,” he said. “Your roles will inspire truth, promote education, and ultimately save lives.”
The governor applauded OYSACA’s leadership, noting the role of community engagement and advocacy in driving public health outcomes.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in the HIV/AIDS response.
OYSACA Chairman, Gbola Adetunji, praised the timely intervention, stating that the funds will allow the agency to better target high-risk groups and expand the reach of HIV prevention and treatment services.
“This fund will enhance our ability to deliver life-saving services and tackle stigma in our communities,” Adetunji said.
Governor Makinde urged the ambassadors to work with dedication and help Oyo State build a more compassionate and health-conscious society.
