Adebayo 2027 election call urges Nigerians to vote out Tinubu and APC, while the SDP chieftain promises major investment in agriculture
Adewole Adebayo, Social Democratic Party, SDP, chieftain and 2023 presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to vote President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, out of office in the 2027 general elections, arguing that the country cannot afford another four years of hardship, poverty and insecurity.

Adebayo made the call during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, where he rejected suggestions that Tinubu and the APC would be difficult to defeat at the polls.
The SDP politician said electoral power ultimately rests with voters and argued that a united electorate voting according to its interests could deliver a decisive result against the ruling party.
“Those people are insulting Nigerians. You cannot be in government if Nigerians vote against you. My job is to talk to Nigerian people. We say enough is enough to poverty and insecurity,” Adebayo said.
He argued that voters should resist attempts to influence their choices through food, money or other inducements and instead focus on the longer-term consequences of government policies.
Adebayo said another four-year term for the APC would place an additional burden on Nigerians who, in his assessment, were already struggling with the effects of economic hardship and insecurity.
“If people are not collecting rice and money from them, if you focus on what you need to save this generation from perpetual poverty and insecurity, realising that we cannot afford four more years of this same thing because our generation has been stressed to the eyeballs, we will win by God’s grace,” he said.
The comments form part of the SDP’s increasingly direct campaign messaging ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Adebayo positioning the party as an alternative to the established political parties.
His intervention also follows the SDP’s unveiling of its policy blueprint, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, which outlines proposals covering electricity, agriculture, infrastructure, employment and institutional reform.
Adebayo has promised an ambitious expansion of Nigeria’s agricultural sector if elected, arguing that the country’s large population, available farmland and agricultural potential could be transformed into a major economic advantage.
“We are a nation that has the capacity to feed the whole of Africa within a period of three years. There is no investment in agriculture,” he said.
The agricultural proposal reflects one of the central themes of Adebayo’s economic argument: that Nigeria should rely more heavily on domestic production to address poverty, employment and food security.
His wider policy blueprint proposes a substantial increase in electricity generation and the development of public and modular refineries, alongside measures intended to boost productivity and stabilise the naira.
Adebayo’s criticism of the Tinubu administration comes as the political contest for 2027 begins to take clearer shape.
President Tinubu and the APC are seeking to defend their hold on the federal government, while opposition parties and presidential hopefuls are attempting to build coalitions capable of challenging the ruling party.
The SDP candidate’s challenge is therefore not simply to criticise the incumbent but to persuade voters that his party can turn its policy proposals into practical improvements in living standards.
For Adebayo, the immediate task is to convince Nigerians that the 2027 election offers an opportunity to change the country’s political direction.

His 2027 election call places poverty, insecurity and food production at the heart of that argument, while leaving voters to decide whether the SDP’s promises offer a credible alternative to the current administration.
