INEC by-elections will hold on September 19 across Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano, with five federal and state constituencies up for contest
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for five by-elections across Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states, with voters set to elect representatives for one federal and four state constituencies.

INEC Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Tunde Oketola, confirmed the election date during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday, September 8.
Oketola said the five contests would comprise one House of Representatives election and four state constituency elections.
In Gombe State, voters in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency will elect a new member of the House of Representatives.
Four state constituencies will also be contested across Bauchi, Delta and Kano.
Bauchi State will hold elections in the Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies, while Delta State will conduct a poll in the Udu State Constituency.
In Kano State, voters in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency will participate in the by-election.
The announcement sets the stage for a fresh round of electoral contests as political parties prepare their candidates and mobilisation efforts ahead of the September 19 polls.
INEC did not immediately state the specific circumstances that created the vacancies in the five constituencies.
By-elections are generally conducted when elected seats become vacant because of circumstances such as death, resignation, disqualification or other provisions of electoral law.
The September 19 exercise will test the preparedness of INEC and the participating political parties as the country continues to build towards the 2027 general elections.

The INEC by-elections will also provide an opportunity for voters in the affected constituencies to choose new representatives to fill the vacant seats.
