Ex-Katsina Senator Bello Mandiya Dies at 62

Former Katsina South senator Bello Mandiya has died at 62. Governor Dikko Radda mourns the ex-lawmaker and praises his public service legacy

Former Senator representing Katsina South, Bello Mandiya, died at the age of 62 on Monday, September 7, 2026, with Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda describing his death as a major loss to the state and Nigeria.

Mandiya’s death was announced in a statement issued by Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Radda, who expressed shock and sadness over the passing of the former federal lawmaker.

“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” Radda said.

Mandiya was a prominent figure in Katsina politics and public administration, having served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari before entering the National Assembly.

He was elected to the Senate in 2019, representing Katsina South Senatorial District in the ninth Senate, and remained in the position until 2023.

Radda described the late senator as a committed public servant whose career spanned both state and federal responsibilities.

“Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered,” the governor said.

The governor also acknowledged Mandiya’s experience in government, saying his service at both state and federal levels formed an important part of his legacy.

“His experience and service at both the state and federal levels remain part of his legacy,” Radda added.

Mandiya’s death is expected to be felt particularly in Katsina South, where he represented constituents in the Senate for four years and remained connected to political and community affairs.

Governor Radda extended his condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Governor Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and friends, as well as members of the ninth Senate.

Radda also prayed for the repose of the former senator’s soul and strength for his family during the period of mourning.

“I pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah give his family and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” the governor said.

Mandiya’s death brings an end to the public life of a politician whose career included senior responsibilities within the Katsina State Government and representation of one of the state’s key senatorial districts at the federal level.
