The chairmanship and councillorship candidates made their position known while addressing journalists in Yola on Monday 22 June 2026.
All 21 chairmen-elect and 226 councillors-elect announced by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on behalf of the ADC candidates, Abubakar Ahmadu described the exercise as lacking credibility and failing to reflect the will of the people.
“We wish to state emphatically that elections did not hold in all the local government councils across the state on June 13, 2026. We therefore wonder how results were concocted and how winners emerged,” Ahmadu said.
He further declared that “the purported conduct of the Adamawa council poll represents the height of electoral banditry.”
The ADC candidates insisted they do not recognise the declared winners and called on democracy advocates and constitutional rights groups to intervene in defence of democratic principles in the state.
They urged the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission to announce a new date for a credible, transparent and inclusive local government election across all 21 local government areas.
Local government polls in Nigeria are often marred by allegations of irregularities, voter apathy and logistical challenges.
Adamawa State has a history of keenly contested elections, with the PDP traditionally strong in many parts of the state.
The ADC’s outright rejection of the results adds to the growing controversy surrounding the June 13 exercise and raises fresh questions about the credibility of the process conducted by ADSIEC.

As of the time of this report, neither ADSIEC nor the Adamawa State PDP had issued an official response to the allegations.
