Osun Accord Party rejects police invitation and demands immediate arrest of alleged APC thugs following violent attacks on its members
The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has firmly rejected an invitation to a meeting called by the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, insisting that it will not engage with the police until those responsible for recent violent attacks on its members are arrested.

The party announced its position in a strongly worded statement issued on Monday 22 June 2026 by its state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande.
According to Pastor Akande, the invitation, received late on Sunday, did not specify the purpose of the meeting and came at a time when the police had allegedly failed to act on multiple complaints of violence against Accord members and sympathisers.
He described the proposed meeting as “an attempt for photo opportunity on the pains and injuries of Accord members.”
“Our members suffered repeatedly out of negligence, criminal collusion and unwillingness for law enforcement of the police command. We lost our youth leader at Ikire. Up till now, no single arrest has been made,” Pastor Akande said.
The Accord chairman alleged that suspected APC supporters destroyed the party’s billboards without any arrests, while armed thugs allegedly linked to the APC carried out attacks in Osogbo and Ede, injuring seven people.
He further claimed that a 14-year-old boy, Ezekiel Olapade, was killed on Sunday in the presence of police officers, yet no arrests had been made.
“We therefore find it difficult to honour invitations from the police commissioner until he does the needful. We charge him to act professionally and enforce fair policing,” he added.
The Osun State Police Command has not yet issued a response to the accusations or confirmed details of the alleged incidents.
Such political tensions are not uncommon in Osun State during periods of heightened political activity, where rival parties frequently trade accusations of thuggery and electoral violence.
Borno State aside, the North-East and parts of South-West Nigeria have seen recurring security concerns linked to political activities in recent years.
The latest development highlights the fragile relationship between some opposition parties and security agencies in the state.

Pastor Akande urged the police to live up to their responsibility of protecting lives and property without bias, warning that continued inaction could further erode public confidence in law enforcement.
