Babachir Lawal Claims ADC Primaries Were Rigged

Babachir Lawal alleges ADC presidential primaries were rigged, claiming Rotimi Amaechi worked harder than other contenders

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections was massively rigged.

Lawal made the claim while responding to ongoing political exchanges involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other party stakeholders.

The former SGF insisted that the primary that produced Atiku as candidate did not reflect a fair process, adding that he had evidence to support his claims.

He contrasted the activities of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, with what he described as Atiku’s lower-profile campaign approach during the contest.

According to him, Amaechi demonstrated stronger commitment to securing the party’s ticket.

“Someone like Rotimi Amaechi was very confident that if we go to primaries he would win. Everybody around him was extremely confident that Amaechi would win,” he said.

Lawal added that Amaechi was the most active among the leading contenders, noting that he moved around extensively in a bid to secure support.

“Among the three candidates, Amaechi was the one moving around, working hard to see that he got the ticket,” he added.

The remarks come amid continued political disagreements and counterclaims within opposition circles over the conduct and outcome of the party’s presidential selection process.
