APC Criticises Obi-Kwankwaso Meeting as Political Surprising

APC criticises Obi Kwankwaso meeting at Eid gathering, expressing surprise over political alignment and questioning its implications

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, 23 March 2026, in Kano, expressed surprise over a recent Eid-el-Fitr meeting involving former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a development that has intensified political commentary around the APC criticises Obi Kwankwaso meeting narrative.

The meeting, which also included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, took place on Sunday at Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road, Kano, during an Eid celebration that drew several prominent political figures.

Reacting to the gathering, APC Publicity Secretary in Kano, Auwal Mai-Nage, described the meeting as unexpected, stating that it raised questions about the political direction and alliances of the opposition figures involved.

He said the party was particularly surprised by what he described as emerging alignments between Obi and Kwankwaso, arguing that such engagements did not reflect the political realities within Kano State.

According to him, the APC believes the gathering lacked significant grassroots mobilisation, adding that attendance did not reflect the stature of the political figures present.

Mai-Nage further suggested that political strategies being pursued by some of the opposition leaders appeared disconnected from local considerations, especially in northern Nigeria’s political landscape.

The APC criticises Obi Kwankwaso meeting reaction adds to ongoing debates surrounding shifting alliances ahead of future electoral cycles, with political observers closely watching interactions between major opposition figures.

Kwankwaso had earlier described the gathering as a moment of unity and celebration, noting that it was held in the spirit of Eid and goodwill among political leaders.

The development continues to generate mixed interpretations across Nigeria’s political space as stakeholders assess its implications for future alignments.
